Beatrice — Restoring a Mother’s Strength
Beatrice — Restoring a Mother’s Strength
Beatrice Mimba’s story is a testament to resilience, perseverance, and the life-changing impact of accessible healthcare.
Born in 1996 in a village near Kisumu, Beatrice’s life took a difficult turn at just 10 years old. While practicing gymnastics at school, she suffered a severe hip injury. Though she was told her hip was "cracked," her family could not afford medical care. With no other choice, Beatrice pushed through the pain for years—adapting her stride and dragging her injured leg, doing whatever it took to keep moving forward.
A Path to Healing
In 2018, her life reached a turning point. Local leaders Elly and Zilper brought Beatrice’s case to our annual medical clinic. Following an orthopedic consultation and imaging, the path was clear: Beatrice needed a total hip replacement. Thanks to generous donations, the surgery was performed in Kijabe, near Nairobi.
The results were transformative. For several years, Beatrice lived a full, active, and pain-free life, caring for her family and embracing the independence she once thought was lost.
Overcoming New Challenges
However, her journey wasn't over. In late 2023, the pain returned as her hip began to fail. By June 2024, walking had become nearly impossible, and caring for her two children grew increasingly difficult. At our annual health clinic, specialists discovered her original hip hardware had become infected, requiring complex reconstructive surgery.
What followed was a grueling medical marathon. Beatrice underwent multiple procedures at St. Luke’s Orthopedic and Trauma Hospital to clear the infection and prepare for a custom hip joint. After months of recovery, rehabilitation, and extraordinary strength, Beatrice is finally back home. She is walking again and, for the first time in nearly two years, she is pain-free.
Beatrice’s story is about more than just medical treatment; it is about restoration. Beyond receiving nearly $10,000 in life-saving care, she has launched a small business to support her children and build a sustainable future.
Our Next Chapter: Bringing Care to the Community
Blair in Kenya is committed to supporting children in two rural communities in Kenya. For over ten years, this has meant investing in two schools that now educate more than 1,500 students.
Now, we are taking the next step.
We are expanding beyond education to bring healthcare to the entire community. Land has been donated, and we are preparing to break ground on a new clinic this summer.
We are working to raise $100,000 to build a health clinic alongside the Blair Educational Centre in Kisumu—an area where there are currently no doctors and very limited access to medicine. Families here are often forced to go without care due to cost, distance, or a simple lack of available services.
Double Your Impact: Through June 18, 2026 your gift can go twice as far. A generous donor will match every donation, dollar-for-dollar, up to $40,000.
