Blair Serem Academy
Blair Serem Academy is one of two facilities supported by Blair in Kenya — and your donations! Thank you for your compassionate giving.
In 2011, Blair Academy admitted a shy Kenyan student from Iten, a village four hours to the north of the Blair Educational Centre. Despite also growing up in a home without electricity or running water, Kelvin Serem quickly became a beloved part of the Blair community, even being featured on the front page of the New York Times. During his time at Blair, we also agreed to partner on the development of a school in Iten, and thus, the Blair-Serem School was developed under the same plan: the community donated the land and manages the school while I work to raise money. Kelvin graduated from Lafayette in 2017 and moved back to Kenya where he now lives and runs the school.
This school is similarly thriving. With nearly 900 students, it is the top performing school in the district (out of 32 schools) and our big challenge has been keeping up with demand. To accommodate the growing needs, we have built dorms for both boys and girls, constructed on-site faculty housing, and acquired land for the growing of food necessary for our food program. Additionally, we recently finished a new computer center connected to Starlink internet. Here is a video about our student trip to Iten in January.
