Back to School Without a Lunch Box
As children around the world prepare to head back to school, many are choosing new backpacks, school supplies, and the latest lunch boxes.
At Blair in Kenya, we think of the approximately 1,500 students enrolled across our two schools—Blair Educational Centre in Kisumu and Blair Serem School in Iten. They return to school with that same excitement and enthusiasm, but for many, having enough nutritious food each day is far from certain.
We would like to change that.
Each year, both Blair schools work hard to provide affordable meals for their students. Some families are able to pay the $75 annual meal-plan cost. Others contribute what they can, and many students receive meal support through sponsorships. But there are still students at both schools who begin the school year without meal coverage.
For those who do receive school meals, breakfast often includes porridge, while lunches are prepared from simple local staples such as beans, maize, rice, and lentils.
These meals make an important difference in a child’s day—but we know we can do more.
Help Fill a Student’s “Lunch Box”
Our immediate goal is to ensure every child at Blair Educational Centre and Blair Serem School has access to a daily meal.
$25 — Feeds 1 student for 4 months
$75 — Feeds 1 student for a full school year
$150 — Feeds 2 students for a full school year
Every gift brings us closer to ensuring that no Blair student, at either school, has to sit in a classroom wondering whether there will be something to eat that day.
Help Us Build a More Nutritious Meal Program
Once every student has access to school meals, additional gifts will help strengthen the meal programs at both of our schools by improving the overall nutritional quality and variety of the food we provide.
That means working toward meals with more protein, vegetables, and other nutrient-rich foods that growing children need to learn, develop, and thrive.
A gift of any size can make a meaningful difference.
Your support can help us meet an immediate need for students at both schools today while also building stronger, healthier meal programs for the future.
Thank you for continuing to walk alongside these children and for being such an important part of the Blair in Kenya family.
Your generosity can help ensure that every Blair student has something nourishing to look forward to at mealtime.
